The Cinema Spot has learned some exciting Star Trek news that we would like to share with you!

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already been renewed for a second season. This news should not be surprising to a lot of fans, as it was previously reported that the Section 31 Star Trek series has also already been renewed for a second season.

These two series have received early season 2 renewals because CBS Television is planning to film two seasons back-to-back. CBS Television is also planning to film seasons 4 and 5 of Star Trek: Discovery back-to-back. CBS likes to do this because it saves them money, allows for shorter hiatuses between the airing of seasons, and it’s also very beneficial for cast and crew members as they get paid more.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was formally announced last month, and will feature three fan favorites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock.

The series synopsis is listed below:

The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

We have also previously reported that despite what the series synopsis claims, The Mandalorian actor Jake Cannavale is being eyed for the role of a young James T. Kirk.

The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. There is currently no filming start or premiere date.
