With Valentine’s Day just a month away, news on HBO and Sony Pictures Television’s The Last of Us have been revealed.

Ellie (voiced by Ashley Johnson) and Riley Abel (voice by Yaani King) have fun at the mall in PlayStation’s Naughty Dog video game, ‘The Last of Us: Left Behind’.

According to Deadline, Storm Reid has been cast in Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s action-adventure science-fiction horror series adaptation. The actor will make a guest appearance as Riley Abel.

In The Last of Us: Left Behind downloadable content (DLC) storyline, Ellie (voiced by Ashley Johnson) and Riley venture into an abandoned mall. The two girls are best friends who grow up together in their Boston military boarding school. That is until the latter reveals she joined the Fireflies, a revolutionary militia group. At the end of the storyline, the two girls share a kiss until they are soon attacked by the Infected. Left Behind has been a groundbreaking point in The Last of Us franchise. It establishes the LGBTQ+ element in the narrative of the series, a controversial topic of discourse within the video game community.

Reid has been an actor in the past decade, starting with Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. Most recently, she has made huge appearances in Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. She currently stars in Season 2 of Sam Levinson’s HBO television series, Euphoria, as Gia Bennett.

Background on The Last of Us

The Last of Us is a series adaptation from Naughty Dog and WarnerMedia. Its story follows an outbreak of a viral mutant Cordyceps fungus that transforms human hosts into hostile zombie-like creatures, the Infected.

The television project is currently in production until June of this year. Pedro Pascal (HBO’s Game of Thrones, Disney+’s The Mandalorian, Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) have been cast last year as respective protagonists, Joel Miller and Ellie. Gabriel Luna and Nico Parker have also been cast in early-2021 as Tommy Miller and Joel’s daughter, Sarah, respectively; while Merle Dandridge reprises her role from the video games as Fireflies leader, Marlene.

Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Murray Bartlett, and Nick Offerman also have roles in the television series.

For now, you can catch Storm Reid in Euphoria on HBO. You can also see her big-screen roles The Invisible Man and The Suicide Squad, both streaming on HBO Max!
