Sang Kyu Kim is set as Silk series showrunner for Sony Television,  a live-action spinoff of the hit animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, per The Illuminerdi.

Kim previously worked on The Walking Dead, and more recently on Altered Carbon, the Netflix sci-fi series that starred Joel Kinnaman in season 1 and Anthony Mackie in season 2. Kim was also nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for the fourth episode of The Walking Dead‘s third season titled Killer Within.

Into The Spider-Verse writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return to the universe to produce the live-action spinoff. In September of last year, Deadline reported that Lauren Moon, the writer of Netflix and Sony‘s Atypical, and Freeform’s Good Trouble, penned the script.

It was also reported by Variety in September of 2020 that Amazon was in talks with Sony to distribute the studio’s shows coming from their Marvel characters, beginning with the Silk series. The writing duo previously signed a massive agreement with Sony to develop multiple television shows for the production company centered on Sony’s Spider-Man and Marvel characters.

The Illuminerdi also reports that Silk has begun their search for the titular character, and Lord and Miller have already met with actress Adeline Rudolph (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) for the role. As they say, the lead role of Cindy Moon/Silk is described as follows:

“Korean-American, between 19 and 29 years old, a kid from Queens who is on her own for the first time. Although she’s a total beginner in law enforcement and fighting crime, she is said to love the feeling of beating up criminals to let her frustrations out, and has an affinity for ‘80s and ‘90s pop culture.

She also struggles with her identity and heritage, but she tries to focus on her family, friends, and relationships.” via The Illuminerdi

The Silk character, named Cindy Moon, was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos in 2014, first appearing in “The Amazing Spider-Man #1”. Moon is a Korean-American who was part of the Agents of Atlas, Spider-Army, and is a classmate of Peter Parker, Spider-Man. She gained her powers from the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker, and gained similar powers, though Moon also has organic webbing. After finding a mentor, Moon was locked away alongside others with similar powers, “for her protection”.
