Great news for the precious fan community of the DC Extended Universe!

In a video recording posted by director Andy Muschietti (Mama, It Chapter One) via Instagram, Latina actress Sasha Calle has been cast as Supergirl in the upcoming DCEU film, The Flash!

Melissa Benoist plays The CW version of the character, with the series ending in its sixth season.

With that said, having a woman of color in the role is beyond incredible. Since 2018, Sasha Calle plays Lola Rosales in CBS’s soap opera series, The Young and the Restless. In that same year, she also made appearances in The White Shoes and Final Stop.

Supergirl holds high importance in the comic book world, so the actress will have to overcome fans’ high expectations once filming commences later this April. There is no doubt that she will do a great job. Man of Steel filmmaker Zack Snyder confirmed before that the character does, in fact, exist. Meanwhile, a Supergirl film has been in development for a few years now, but no update has been made. Who knows how big of a role Supergirl will play, especially with many other iconic actors cast in the film!

Andy Muschietti’s The Flash releases on November 4th, 2022.
