It’s a sad day for us Arrowverse fans as we are losing the second series in this universe in just the last year with Supergirl coming to a conclusion with season 6. In an article with Deadline they confirmed that the series will end as Melissa Benoist, the producers, the network(CW), and the studio all came to the decision to end the series.

Here’s the full quote on what Deadline reported:

Between the delays and Supergirl’s downward ratings trajectory, I hear the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season. The creative team has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes. The order is expected to be longer than most broadcast series this coming season, including the CW scripted shows, which will be launching in January and beyond.

While the news came rather unexpectedly personally I am not that surprised that the series is coming to its conclusion so soon. Having borrowed from Superman’s rogues gallery last season with Leviathan as well as using most of the Supergirl villains I wasn’t expecting the series to last that long. While ‘Superman and Lois’ isn’t the direct reason for this series ending I did always feel it was inevitable that ‘Supergirl’ would be ending soon. As a fan of the series I have loved every part of it even with the downs it’s had in it’s writing I feel like they make up for that in it’s characters. Melissa Benoist has been such an icon for many people that it’s going to suck we won’t get to see her on a regular basis as Kara.

Kara’s departure in the Arrowverse is definitely going to be felt next year as her interactions with the other characters were always some of the best parts about the Arrowverse. Whether it’s the moments she had singing songs with Grant Gustin or having a (brief) friendship with Kate Kane, Melissa will definitely be missed. I hope the series doesn’t end with her being killed off though because I would still love for both Kara and J’onn to show up again for crossovers or guest appearances on the other series.

I’m also going to miss seeing all the other great characters Supergirl has introduced to us in the Arrowverse. There are way too many characters to talk about that have been on the series, but I will touch on a bunch of them briefly. David Harewood as Martian Manhunter was always such a joy to watch and I still remember being so shocked at that reveal he was this iconic character all the way in season 1.

Kara’s adoptive sister Alex Danvers has been a pleasure to watch her journey throughout the series from DEO Agent to now vigilante. I’m so glad this series introduced us to Nicole Maines as Nia Nul/Dreamer as the first ever transgender superhero to be brought into live action. Gonna miss seeing Brainiac 5(Jesse Rath) as he’s been brought such a joy to the show ever since he replaced Winn. Thank you to everyone involved in this show and lets go out with a bang with season 6!
