Ben Affleck is set to direct the Keeper of the Lost Cities adaptation for Disney. Written by Shannon Messenger, the novel of the same name launches an eight book series following a young telepath names Sophie. When Sophie meets fellow telepath Fitz, she comes to realize there is a world where she belongs. There, she must find out why she belongs in this mysterious world.
Alongside directing, Affleck and his production company Pearl Street will produce the film with Kate Gritmon, a Game of Thrones alum. Affleck has recently been making headlines, with Warner Brothers confirming his return to the role of Batman for both Andy Muschietti’s The Flash and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The report of his directing of a young adult film is a drastic departure from his previous directing credits as he steps into the role as Keeper of the Lost Cities’ director.
Disney revealed numerous titles during the Disney Investor Day back on December 10, 2020, though a live action adaptation of Messenger’s novels were left off the slate. It was reported that numerous projects in development at the Mouse House have yet to be revealed, though quite a few Disney+ projects were announced. One of the next Disney live-action adaptations to come will be Cruella, based on the villain of the 101 Dalmatians animated movies.
With films such as The Town, Argo, and Live By Night under his director’s belt, Affleck will be testing the waters with Keeper of the Lost Cities.
