‘Scream 5’ Casts Several Newcomers to the Franchise

Do you like scary movies? Did you hear that Scream 5 announced five franchise newcomers today? 

We just reported a few hours ago that Neve Campbell was set to star in the upcoming Scream 5. We’ve gotten three more casting announcements since! 

The first announcement to come was that Marley Shelton signed on to reprise her role from Scream 4 as Deputy Judy Hicks. Immediately following that news, Deadline reported that the film was adding two newcomers to the franchise: Mason Gooding and Dylan Minnette. Additional reporting revealed that they will be joined by other newcomers Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison.

Gooding is known primarily for his work in Hulu’s Love, Victor series, and Minnete is primarily known for his work on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. He’s also no stranger to the horror genre, as he co-starred in the 2016 surprise hit, Don’t Breathe. Kyle Gallner has starred in a variety of horror films such as Jennifer’s Body and the Nightmare on Elm St remake. Jasmin Savoy Brown is known for her work on HBO’s The Leftovers. Mikey Madison most recently starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Earlier this month we reported that another newcomer, Jack Quaid, was joining the cast. He will now be joined by Minnette, Gooding, Gallner, Savoy Brown, and Madison.

Scream 5 is said to be a reboot of sorts for the franchise and will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, from a script by James Vanderbilt. This will be the first film in the franchise to not be helmed by horror legend Wes Craven and his writing partner, Kevin Williamson. As a long time fan of the franchise, I am very excited to see the cast shaping up this nicely. I can’t wait to see them all get sliced and diced.
