At the beginning of this year, we reported that FX and Donald Glover’s comedy-drama television series Atlanta Seasons 3 and 4 would be released in 2021. However, this may not be the case anymore.

In a report by Variety, FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf announced at a virtual press conference that the series has shut down production due to COVID-19 pandemic complications and would resume in early-2021 with an unspecified release date of later that year. Landgraf also stated that the upcoming seasons of Glover’s series have already completed writing “over the last few months.”

He expresses, Variety writes, that “the cast and crew safety was the ‘No. 1 priority’ and that includes not only new practices and procedures, such as testing, social distancing and contract tracing, but also simply giving them access to doctors and epidemiologists.”

One season is set and will primarily be shot in Atlanta, Georgia, while the other season is to take place in Europe.

The show’s third season will consist of 10 new episodes, with the fourth season will premiere later with eight episodes. Both had been referred to by Landgraf as ”Parts 1 and 2” of a new chapter in the series’ life. The last time we saw Earnest ”Earn” Marks (Donald Glover) and his rapper cousin Alfred ”Al” Miles aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) was in Season 2, where the two characters boarded a plane to go on a tour with another rapper. The cousins shared a conversation about making sacrifices in the professional world. This season was subtitled “Robbin’ Season,” and aired in Spring 2018. Also starring in the series are Zazie Beetz and Lakeith Stanfield.
