Earlier today, Kessel Run Transmissions reported that Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Atlanta) will be returning to a galaxy far, far away in a yet-to-be-announced Star Wars project for Disney+. Glover has been planning to shoot FX’s Atlanta Season 3 and 4 back to back for quite some time, which will most likely take precedent over tackling a new project. This could put production at a late 2021 or early 2022 start at the earliest.
Few details are known, though Jordan Maison (EIC of Cinelinx) teased that he heard rumors he could not confirm that the series may feature the return of Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian. In this scenario, though Williams’ Lando will be telling stories of his youth, played out by Glover’s iteration of the character.
Lucasfilm is extremely interested in utilizing the Disney+ streaming service to expand the Star Wars universe for them. With season 2 of The Mandalorian set to introduce live-action Ahsoka Tano, a live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn, and an animated The Clone Wars sequel titled The Bad Batch, and so much more, Disney+ will house tons of Star Wars originals. With the return of Lando Calrissian, this will mark the third live-action Star Wars series that takes place between the fall of the Republic and Rise of the Empire (between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope), following the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the Cassian Andor series.
