Many people have been breaking quarantine lately and the number of cases is starting to rise again. Scary, right? It’s a good thing I kept a list of all the horror movies I’ve watched since the lockdown started! Get your comfiest blanket and fifty pounds worth of snacks. Here is a list of 10 horror movies that I’ve seen over the pandemic period that you should check out right this instant!

10. House on Haunted Hill (1959)

The beautiful Carol Ohmart as the estranged wife Annabelle Loren.

I’m kicking off the list with an oldie, but definitely a goldie! Five strangers come together to try and win some cash from a millionaire. All they have to do is stay the night in a haunted house. Who will win, or will anyone win at all?

Watching this film in this day and age will evidently be not as frightening as it was 60 years ago, but it is inspiring to witness the forefather’s magic of this beloved genre!

9. It Comes at Night (2017)

This isn’t your traditional horror movie. I was expecting something different but that’s always the beauty of cinema. A deadly virus has broken out in the world and we witness the fate of two families as their lives intertwine.

It kept me on my toes, and my mind was racing trying to figure out what in the world was going on. Riley Keough stole the show!

8. My Soul to Take (2010)

The late Wes Craven’s shot at making a horror movie in this past decade. Seven teenagers in a small town all have the same birthday as the supposed death of a serial killer. Legend says he made an oath to come back and kill them all. When kids start disappearing, is the tale really true?

I love watching movies from this era! We’ve definitely come a long way. Plus anything made by Wes Craven is a masterpiece!

(Note from the editor: Lauren told me about this movie earlier during this pandemic, and when I watched it, I felt Craven’s signature all over it. It’s definitely not the best of his works, but if you grew up around this time, this was something you would want to watch with friends!)

7. Trick (2019)

The infamous mask of this new-age serial killer!

A B-rated slasher film with the power of keeping audiences from changing the movie, Trick introduces a newborn killer. A high school student massacres a number of fellow peers at a Halloween party. The police aren’t able to catch him and he escapes. All hell breaks loose after!

There were some scenes that were definitely mediocre and cringeworthy, but I was able to watch the movie all the way to the end and did not regret it. That’s certainly a plus! 🙂

6. Eli (2019)

This was definitely a combination of The Omen meets Brightburn! A young boy suffering from a rare disease seeks treatment at a creepy and unorthodox home. As each night passes, he is tormented by unknown forces within the facility.

I went into this film without any expectations and was surprised by all of the story’s elements. I thought the plot was well-crafted and the young actors (Charlie Shotwell and Sadie Sink) were magnificent!

5. Wounds (2019)

Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnson play a tormented couple.

This film is more of a psychological trip than straight-up horror, but it was still pretty creepy though! A bartender takes home a phone left behind by some college kids and eerie events start to unravel very quickly.

Armie Hammer aka Oliver from Call Me By Your Name aka the hottest hunk on the planet plays the leading role, along with firecracker Dakota Johnson!

4. Intruders (2015)

A woman who hasn’t gone outside in years due to severe agoraphobia is faced with her worst fears as 3 men come to rob her home.

I never truly understood the nature of this anxiety disorder and I think it’s important for everybody to learn about different mental disorders and how it affects everybody around us. Mental health is key!

3. In the Tall Grass (2019)

Laysla De Oliveira plays a pregnant Becky.

We all love a good Stephen Kill novel, yes? This screen adaptation ain’t too shabby! Two siblings are on a road trip when they take a pit stop near an old church in the middle of nowhere. Parked near a large field of tall grass, they hear a young boy calling for help. Upon entering the field, they soon realize they can’t find a way out.

After watching this movie, there’s nothing scarier in this world than grass. Yup! You can pee your pants all you want with your serial murderers and killer clowns. Just keep that 9-foot grass away from me!

2. The Prodigy (2019)

Jackson Robert Scott as the spine-chilling Miles Blume.

A psychotic serial killer is shot and killed the same exact time a lady named Sarah gives birth to her son Miles. As the baby grows, he exhibits exceptional intelligence but before his eighth birthday, his parents notice Miles’s extreme ominous behavior.

Super serious with dark undertones, this film was interesting from beginning to end. Almost like the boy version of The Orphan with some Chucky mixed into one little human being. The freaky factor was surely up there! Orange is the New Black‘s Taylor Schilling stars as mother Sarah, and I think she should do horror movies way more!

1. Hereditary (2018)

Milly Shapiro playing star character Charlie Graham.

This movie is at the top of my list because I feel that not enough people have seen this! C’mon, guys, it’s been two years already! For those of you who have seen it, God bless you!

A grandmother passes away, and the life she left behind slithers its way into her daughter’s family. Sinister occurrences happen afterward and every family member slowly suffers from the consequences.

Writer and director Ari Aster became my number one influence after watching this in theaters. His whole vision, mindset, and skill of storytelling is just phenomenal and a gift to this generation of horror!

That wraps up my list, folks! Thank you for taking the time to read through my personal list. I hope you all find something worth watching and passing down.

Stay safe and STAY HOME!
