Despite the failure of Universal Pictures’ Dark Universe with The Mummy (2017), the distribution company garnered critical acclaim with The Invisible Man, which released nearly two weeks ago. Due to the praiseworthy direction and writing on Leigh Whannell’s behalf, fans of the horror genre and of Blumhouse Productions are now again in need of a monster cinematic universe. Yesterday, this reverie received some fulfillment with great news!

In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Japanese-American filmmaker Karyn Kusama has been hired to direct a Dracula film under Blumhouse. This is not yet housed at Universal, but Blumhouse has a great deal with the studio to let this not work. Like The Invisible Man, this project would reportedly have to take place in modern times and will focus its approach on the filmmaker’s vision instead of being driven by its star (sorry, Tom Cruise).

And like Whannell whose work on the Saw franchise made it a cult favorite, Kusama has credibility in the horror genre with Jennifer’s Body, The Invitation, and HBO‘s The Outsider. Why deny her of a project so popular and unique?

What do you think? Would you want to see this movie be made? Let us know! For more horror-related news and reviews follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_).
