Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are officially set to be in a sequel to the 1997 children’s comedy Good Burger. The film was announced on March 17, 2023, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The duo will be reprising their roles, and fans won’t be waiting long to see what’s been going on at the home of the Good Burger.
The comedic duo has a history of appearing together on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In 2015 Thompson and Mitchell reunited for a sketch on the show that featured Fallon. Then in 2019, Mitchell returned as the loveable cashier Ed in a season of a Good Burger television series.
While talking to Jimmy Fallon, Kenan Thompson said, “I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!” Thompson discusses the upcoming film. “Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!”
Mitchell stated, “Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to be still be doing it after all these years. It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”
What to Expect from ‘Good Burger 2’
The new installment in the Good Burger franchise will follow Dexter (Thompson), a struggling inventor that returns to his former position at Good Burger. Ed (Mitchell) brings his old pal back at Good Burger and its latest crew to help his old pal get back up. There is still no news on whether they will fight Mondo Burger, the evil burger franchise from the original 1997 movie.
Not only are the original stars returning, but so are the writers too. Kevin Koplow and Heath Seifert, who worked together on All That and co-wrote the 1997 Good Burger movie, are the lead writers, with James Ill joining the writer’s room. Phil Traill is set to direct the film.
