After the exciting end to Obi-Wan Kenobi Part II last week, we were left waiting to see what would happen to our heroes. This week’s episode gave us the answers – and so much more! Obi-Wan Kenobi “Part III” stars Ewan McGregor, Moses Ingram, Vivien Lyra Blair, Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma. The episode is directed by Deborah Chow and is written by Joby Harold, Hannah Friedman, Hossein Amini and Stuart Beattie.

I Know What It Is You Seek

This week, we saw Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) trying his best to look after the young Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair). The pair find themselves on a mining planet, and they have a meeting to make. These moments between the pair are funny, charming, and sometimes bittersweet. It’s clear to see the trust growing between the two, but Obi-Wan is still haunted by what has happened in his past.

Ewan McGregor is great as usual. Obi-Wan is different now, but this is a character who has been through a lot; his difference is to be expected. As the episodes progress, it feels like he’s returning a little to himself at times, but he’s still struggling with what happened. This is going to be a steady progression for Obi-Wan, and a steady journey to get him to where he needs to be. But McGregor is doing a great job, and he’ll certainly make this journey an interesting one.

Vivien Lyra Blair is also brilliant in this episode. As in the first two, she carries all of the right humour and attitude that we know Leia has. As she learns to trust Kenobi more, the pair become a great team. Blair shines on screen, no matter who she shares it with. To be able to have such a fun and interesting presence on screen at such a young age is very impressive.

You Cannot Run, Obi-Wan

This is a show that isn’t relying too much on action or long, drawn-out story building. We get a good balance of both of these things, and this leads to some fantastic moments. There is some incredible tension that is built throughout, and this makes the less action-heavy scenes more meaningful. And while Obi-Wan and Leia are trying to get to where they need to be, there’s someone else on their own journey.

Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander, the Third Sister, is again a shining star in this episode. As her ambition and drive grow, so do her ferocity and terror. She is a fantastically frightening character who seems to have no boundaries. Ingram really brings this character to life, and she steals the show with all of her scenes. Her fearless and unhinged search for Kenobi goes deep, and you can tell that there is more to their story than we may know yet. This is the character I’m most excited about for this show, and to have her played so masterfully is all part of the appeal.

This episode also brought another old favourite to the show. We get our first look at Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen and James Earl Jones) and he finally confronts Obi-Wan. To hear the iconic voice once more is amazing, but Christensen’s physicality and looming presence on-screen really tie the performance up nicely. This is the moment we’ve been waiting for, and to have it in the third episode works well. Bringing him in now gives us the right amount of time needed to fully explore this character.

Feeling Hot!

This was another great episode from an interesting series. It feels different, it’s exciting, and it’s nice to see more of our most beloved characters. We’ve also been introduced to some new characters that we just need to know more about. But there’s still something that just isn’t hitting perfectly with the show. It’s a fun and enjoyable series, but it feels like it’s still trying to reach it’s full potential. From here, we have to see if the last three episodes will give us that thing that we’re missing, and I have hope that this will happen.

Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes 1-3 are now available to stream on Disney+.
