One of the most anticipated nights in the film industry is almost here. The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 27th at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET and will be back at the Dolby Theater. You might recall that last year’s ceremony was held at Union Station.

Things look a little different this year than in past years, and I’m going to lay out everything you can expect.

Since its 1929 birth at the Roosevelt Hotel, the Oscars have gone through a lot. At that time, films with sound weren’t even eligible for consideration. Where did the academy even get the name Oscar? History reported that in 1939 Margaret Herrick (Academy executive director) commented that the statue looked like her Uncle Oscar. Although, that story is still just a rumor

One of the biggest questions dominating Twitter for the past few months was who the host would be. Some of the most popular audience-nominated contenders were Tom Holland, Kermit the Frog, and ultimately the Spider-Man trio of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. Last month the news broke that Wanda Sykes, Regina King, and Amy Schumer would be this year’s trio of hosts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is likely to be a “three-act show” where each host will take an hour of the show.

One of the most controversial changes is the omittance of eight categories this year. Sound, production design, documentary short, live-action short, animated short, original score, editing, and make-up and hair will not be announced live at the ceremony. THR reported that these categories will be recorded in advance and edited for airing.

No matter the changes, the Oscars always prove to be exciting one way or another. I’m pretty anxious to see which film takes home Best Picture. According to the Oscar odds for Best Picture, the top three films predicted to win the award are The Power of the Dog (-175), Belfast (+250), and West Side Story (+600). With only weeks to go, those odds may not change.

If you’re unable to tune in live, The Cinema Spot will be covering the event on Twitter. We want to hear your thoughts. Who do you think is taking home an Oscar this year? Let us know in the comments below, or on our Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) or Facebook (@TheCinemaSpotFB)!
