Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed The Morning Show is finally back with its second season. It promises to have all the shock and drama that its first season offered viewers. Although the first episode is tame by TMS standards, it definitely lays the groundwork for future character plotlines in this drama.

The Aftermath of the Truth

The first episode is titled “My Least Favorite Year”; Eric Lipez & Adam Milch and series developer Kerry Ehrin serve as the writers of the episode, while Mimi Leder serves as the director. It provides a glimpse of the chaos after Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon)’s delivery of the truth bomb regarding UBA’s toxic work environment and the sexual misconduct among UBA workers.

The episode shows beautiful drone footage going through an empty, pandemic-ridden New York City. Although, the season itself begins at the end of 2019. As the episode proceeds, we briefly see a transition occurring in the UBA network and catch up with the show’s key players. Without giving too much away, here is where the show picks up:

  • Bradley: Bradley is still the host of The Morning Show yet yearns for a spot in the more serious evening news. However, she is not given the opportunity and is kept on The Morning Show
  • Cory: Cory (Billy Crudup) is now CEO of UBA and attempting to maintain the sinking raft afloat. He begins to show a different side to his usual cool,pot-stirring demeanor.
  • Alex: Alex has left the show and is in Maine writing a manuscript of her memoir. She is told that it’s good. However, it lacks depth in certain aspects of the stories, specifically revolving around Mitch.
  • Chip: UBA’s ex-producer Chip (Mark Duplass) is in a different TV studio and has a girlfriend. He seems bored with the job but flourishing in terms of his personal life.
  • Other characters are seen, including, of course, Yanko (Néstor Carbonell), Mia (Karen Pittman), and Daniel (Desean Terry). However, not too much is revealed about them in this episode except that they are still at UBA. No update on Mitch as of yet in this season!

“A Battle for the Soul of the Universe”

Although it is a soft start, The Morning Show Season 2’s drama is just beginning to boil. This is evident by the show’s last 3 minutes, a moment that forces Crudup to utter “Oh f*ck” at the end of the episode. I have no doubt in my mind that audiences will be gasping at whatever drama will show up.
