Zack Snyder’s next movie, Rebel Moon, lands at Netflix. The sci-fi adventure film will be co-written, produced and directed by Snyder. The Rebel Moon co-writers include Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300), while Snyder and Johnstad will reportedly receive credit for the story.

Netflix appears to be the new home of the former DC Universe architect, after his latest film, Army of the Dead, saw massive success. Army‘s first four weeks saw 72 million households streaming the zombie blockbuster film, and was Snyder’s first outing as cinematographer on a feature film. The Dead universe will continue to expand as an anime prequel Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and Army of Thieves, while a sequel is nearly inevitable.

The story synopsis provided by THR can be found reads:

“The story is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.” – THR

Of the project, the Man of Steel director says:

“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.” – THR

THR goes on to write that Snyder takes inspiration for Rebel Moon from a Star Wars pitch he had developed a while back, and that the director and his creative team have been building up this world for the past few years.

Snyder also has a Norse mythology-centered animated series, Twilight of the Gods, in development at Netflix. Jay Oliva (Batman: The Long Halloween Parts 1 & 2), is set to serve as showrunner. The series was announced during Netflix’s Geeked Week last month, and is set to star John Noble, Jamie Chung, Lauren Cohen, Kristopher Hijvu, Rahul Kohli, and many, many more. No release date has been announced yet, nor any plot details, though this will likely release after the two Army of the Dead prequels, both of which have been in production for some time. Snyder will serve as Executive Producer on Twilight of the Gods, as well as the Army prequels.
