After years of being in development, Noah Centineo has exited the role of He-Man in Sony’s Masters of the Universe reboot. Speaking to Collider, a rep for Centineo stated, “He [Centineo] is no longer attached to that project.” The rep offered no reasoning for the actor’s departure.

Centineo has his work cut out for him in the comic months, as production on Black Adam, starring Centineo and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is already underway. Centineo, who plays Atom Smasher in Black Adam, will find himself squaring off against Johnson’s titular character. The actor will shift focus from DC to Netflix as he then will gears to star in the untitled film about the Gamestop drama based on the company’s financial rises and falls earlier this year.

Centineo has won awards from the MTV Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and People’s Choice Awards for his works on To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Perfect Date. He also starred in To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, and found his breakout role in the Disney Channel series The Fosters.

Masters of the Universe is based on the 1980s television series of the same name, and is currently being written by brothers Aaron and Adam Nee. Drafts had previously been written by David S. Goyer, as well as Christopher Yost, Matt Holloway, and Art Marcum. A live action remake was previously released in 1987 and starred Dolph Lundgren in the same role Centineo has departed.

What are your thoughts on who could play He-Man? Let us know in the comments below! And be sure to follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_) to stay up to date with all of Sony Pictures’ latest projects!
