It’s barely been a whole week since our last update on Don Mancini’s Chucky television adaptation. At the beginning of this month, Lexa Doig and Barbara Alyn Woods were both confirmed to join the series. Before that, Fiona Dourif was announced to reprise her Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017) role as Nica Pierce. Now, it was only a matter of time until more familiar faces joined the show.

The News

In a report by SYFY Wire, Alex Vincent and Christine Elise McCarthy will reprise their Child’s Play franchise roles in Mancini’s series. Vincent plays Andy Barclay, a long-time enemy of Charles Lee Ray a.k.a. “Chucky” (Brad Dourif). As a young child actor, he appeared in Child’s Play (1988) and its sequel, Child’s Play 2 (1990). After 23 years away from the role, Vincent returned as Barclay in Curse of and Cult of Chucky.

Meanwhile, Elise McCarthy will return as Barclay’s foster sister, Kyle. The actress first appeared in Child’s Play 2, then in Cult of Chucky.

The Background Details

The last time we saw the beloved heroes, Vincent’s character realized Chucky’s plot to simultaneously transfer his soul into multiple dolls. Barclay then commits himself to Pierce’s medium-security Harrogate Psychiatric Hospital to try and stop Chucky once and for all. Unfortunately, his plan fails, and Barclay is locked in a cell while the mental institution goes in lockdown, and Pierce (possessed by Chucky) escapes. All of this happens in Cult of Chucky, and in its post-credits scene, Kyle visits Barclay’s home with orders to torture the severed head of the original Chucky.

Oh, how the plot thickens! With Vincent and Elise McCarthy joining Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly, it’s only a matter of time until we see the possible return of other old faces. For example, what truly happened to Jade Kincaid (Katherine Heigl) and Jesse (Nick Stabile) after Bride of Chucky (1998)? Or, where did Glen and Glenda go since the end of Seed of Chucky (2004)? Over the decades, Chucky has taken over many horror sub-genres, and Mancini has big plans for his series. He stated:

With this TV show, our mission has been to preserve the straightforward scariness of the original film or the first couple of films. But at the same time, continue on with this ever-expanding tapestry of consistent story that we’ve spun over the course of seven movies and 30-some years. I think fans are really gonna love to see the new characters that we introduce into this realm and just to see how they came off of our classic characters. Not just Chucky, but some of the others that you may be hoping to see. There’s a good chance they may turn up.

Indeed, the franchise creator has these plans in mind for a while now. You can check out his exclusive interview with SYFY Wire from last May!
