The day has finally come as the fate of Arrow‘s prospective spinoff Green Arrow And the Canaries will not be moving forward on the CW as announced today. Initially ran as a backdoor pilot for Arrow season 8 the spinoff would have featured Oliver’s daughter Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara) taking up the mantle of Green Arrow in a newly rebooted future thanks to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. She would have been aided by the two most recent Black Canaries of the show Laurel Lance (Earth-2) and Dinah Drake as well in this future.

It should come to no surprise that after all this wait that this spinoff would no longer being moved forward. The network side of DC Television no longer seeming to be a priority for Warner Brothers looks like is going full steam ahead with it’s HBO Max series. While there are still a bunch of CW DC shows in development such as Painkiller, Wonder-Girl (Yara-Flor), and Naomi, who knows if these shows may even be picked up.

Green Arrow and the Canaries would have been produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama had the series been picked up. It’s cast would have included Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), and Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake) as the titular heroes, with Ben Lewis (William Clayton) and Joseph David-Jones (Connor Hawke) reprising their roles from Arrow as well. With a cast like this, it is a shame that Green Arrow and the Canaries is not moving forward at The CW.
