Roku is nearing a deal to purchase the content library of Quibi, the brainchild of Jeffrey Katzenberg, according to the Wall Street Journal. The failed streaming platform is home of numerous shows, such as Luke Hemsworth’s Most Dangerous Game and Sam Raimi’s 50 States of Fright, each delivering installments of the shows in ten minute segments. Quibi launched in April of 2020 with $1.75 billion in funding and offered a staggering 3 months free to all subscribers before announcing in October of 2020 that the company could not sustain its operations.

Roku currently offers it’s millions of product owners content produced by other production companies through the ad-supported Roku channel. The Roku devices do not offer original Roku content at this time, though this deal would change that situation.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that the deal is for the entire Quibi library, though they were unable to learn any more about the deal. This also includes the current purchase points being discussed. The Journal does note, however, that the deal still could very well fall apart.

Roku recently gained itself a major win with the addition of HBO Max to their channel lineup. Despite having launched in May of 2020, the streaming service of WarnerMedia was notably absent from Roku devices until December 17 in the United States. It was reported that a deal between Roku and WarnerMedia could not be struck as WarnerMedia wanted to receive all of the $14.99 subscription fee, an operating method not typically utilized by Roku.

With Quibi’s library currently unavailable for streaming, would you like to see Roku take on the streaming rights? Let us know in the comments below!
