The Cinema Spot has learned that a third animated Star Trek series is in development.

Details about this new Star Trek show are currently being kept under wraps, but we have learned that it is currently known as Star Trek Adventures, a title that will most likely be replaced prior to the series announcement.

The animated show is being developed by Titmouse Inc. Vancouver. The independent award-winning animation production company is known for Netflix’s The Midnight Gospel, CW Seed’s Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons, and the Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures shorts.

This series will not be the first Star Trek cartoon, as we have previously gotten Star Trek: The Animated Series. There are also two more animated shows in the works, with Star Trek: Lower Decks being the first one, from developer Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites). The second show is set at Nickelodeon, from Lego Ninjago creators Dan and Kevin Hageman. The series was previously known as Star Trek: Prodigy, though the title has been changed since, and it is now unknown what the new name is.

While we currently do not know what this third animated series will be about, my guess is that it will be a procedural drama about the crew of a starship encountering previously unknown beings and planets, like the old Star Trek shows. I’m basing this off the Star Trek Adventures name, though it is possible that the title does not speak about the contents of the series, similar to Star Trek: Discovery.
