This movie is the Romeo + Juliet homage that I didn’t ask for but somehow ended up needing. What drew me to Little Italy was the obvious plotline of a family owned and operated pizza shop because my family also owns and operates a pizza shop. No pun intended, but this movie is cheesy. I might even call it borderline satire. The predictability is so palpable and it’s incredibly cliché. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, I’m recommending it for a reason.

In summary, Nikki Angioli (Emma Roberts) and Leo Campo (Hayden Christensen) – yes, Nancy Drew and Anakin Skywalker – are the son and daughter of two rival pizza shop owners in Toronto’s Little Italy. Nikki is now living in London and must return home to renew her visa so she can continue to work as a chef over there. She is reunited with Leo who is working with his parents and trying to get a pizza shop of his own off the ground. Their childhood friendship eventually blossoms into romance. The two of them have to keep their relationship a secret from their parents and try to figure out why this feud started in the first place.

I always wanted a film like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but for Italians. This movie isn’t really comparable to that film in any plot type of way, but it was a start. Seeing a close knit Italian family owning a pizza shop was basically seeing my family on a movie screen and for now, I’ll take it. Maybe I have to be the one to make my own My Big Fat Greek Wedding-esque movie.

This film is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video so if you give it a watch let us know on Twitter what your thoughts are.
