Amélie is a true gem. At least in my opinion. I’ve heard through the film twitter grapevine that this film is known as the cliche foreign film and if you like it then you’re not a true foreign film lover. However, I think that’s absolutely incorrect. I’m not claiming I am a foreign film genius by any means. I like this movie plain and simple. I like the musical version of this movie plain and simple. It’s kind of a Parisian dream for me in the sense that I would love to live in Paris, have a cute little apartment, be a waitress, and pull off a short bob haircut.

In a nutshell, the film is about Amélie Poulain, a waitress who harmlessly meddles into the lives of people around her and finds love along the way. When she was younger her father mistook her excitement for a heart defect and she led a sheltered life. As a result of that, she lacked a lot of real-life contact with others. She grew up and resorted to living in her own world of love and fantasy. Upon moving into her new apartment she finds an old trinket box and is determined to return it to the rightful owner. If he was touched, Amélie would become an anonymous do-gooder. She makes it her mission and helps the quirky characters in her life.

If you’ve seen this film, what’s your favorite part? If you haven’t, maybe take the time to check it out. As always let us know your thoughts at @TheCinemaSpot
