Today, it was revealed by Variety that J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot has been given the green light to develop three separate shows for the upcoming HBO Max streaming service from AT&T and Warner Brothers.
The first show is an original series titled Duster, which is reportedly a drama co-written by Abrams and author LaToya Morgan. Duster will follow a getaway driver for a crime syndicate during the 1970s in the SouthWest.
The second show is a series inspired by Stephen King’s famous book “The Shining,” titled Overlook. This series is, as expected, a horror-thriller series. Overlook will dive deep into the hidden history of the infamous Overlook Hotel.
The final show given the go-ahead by Warner Brothers is an adaption of the DC Comics property Justice League Dark. While details of these series are still unknown, it was revealed a few months ago that DC and Warner Brothers were using their DCUniverse shows to begin building an inter-connected universe that built to a Justice League Dark series, starting with the critically-acclaimed and now cancelled Swamp Thing series.
Each show will be executive produced by Abrams as well as by Ben Stephenson, Bad Robot’s Head of Television. Executive Vice President of Television for Bad Robot, Rachel Rusch Rich, will serve as a co-executive producer for all three shows.
