Not only has this quarantine given me time to watch some new movies and television shows, but it has also given me time to rewatch some of my old favorites. (I’m on yet another rewatch of Gossip Girl.) So my movie recommendation for this week is Jurassic Park.  A personal childhood favorite that grew into a teenage favorite and an adulthood favorite.

I get it, most of you have seen this Spielberg classic before. It didn’t make the top 100 film list for nothing. It is the true film trifecta with comedy, action, and nostalgia. If the first one isn’t your favorite, please don’t think you have to stick to this. Feel free to watch any of the other four. Maybe even watch all five as a refresher before Jurassic World: Dominion or a way to console yourself since the sixth film has halted production. (I will not confirm or deny that I have done this.)

Still not convinced? Here are some fun film facts…

  1. The film runs for over two hours, but there are roughly fifteen minutes of actual dinosaur footage.
  2. The use of CGI was groundbreaking for the industry at this time. The film went on to win Oscars for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects at the 1994 Oscars.
  3. Part of the sound mixing for the T-Rex roar incorporated the sound of a baby elephant.
  4. The stark contrast in the costumes of Ian Malcolm (all black) and Hammond (all white) is used to represent that the two characters are diametrically opposed.
  5. Because of the rain on-set, the T-Rex’s animatronics would often glitch and it came to life without any help at all.
