Chernin Entertainment, the production company behind recent hit films such as The Greatest Showman, the latest Planet of the Apes trilogy, and the animated flick Spies In Disguise, has inked an exclusive first-look deal with Netflix. The deal allows Netflix the first opportunity to pick up or pass on any project Chernin is shopping around.
Prior to this deal, Chernin had a similar deal struck with 20th Century Fox until the Walt Disney Company officially purchased the former production giant. With Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the rights to 70 of the 80 Chernin-produced films under the Fox umbrella reverted back to Chernin. Projects that remained with Disney include the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy among a handful of others.
