Deadline reports that Craig Gillespie is currently the top choice to direct DC Studios’ upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Back in January, Milly Alcock was cast as Supergirl, also known as Kara Danvers. The character is expected to appear first in James Gunn’s Superman.

Ana Nogueira will be writing the screenplay for the film. The playwright has previously been tapped to write a screenplay for a live-action Teen Titans film, currently in development at the production studio.

Gillespie is best known for directing I, Tonya and Cruella. He is one of the few confirmed directors for the upcoming DCU slate of films. The other confirmed directors are James Gunn (Superman), Andy Muschietti (The Brave and The Bold), and James Mangold (Swamp Thing).

Not much is known about Woman of Tomorrow, but it is confirmed to be based on the comic book limited series of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes. The comic features Supergirl going on a cross-galaxy adventure to help avenge a family while dealing with her own grief about the destruction of her home planet, Krypton.
