Something about me? I have been a nerdy cinephile for as long as I can remember. Putting the two together is living my best life. That notwithstanding, I was born to express, not to impress, so I blog because I don't have friends. In other news, I like hashtags because they look like waffles, prefer my puns intended, and I always give 100% unless I'm donating blood. Thanks for reading.

Barbie mania is still sweeping the world with a clean sweep of Pepto Bismol euphoria. It will continue dancing on the Pink Carpet to the 96th Academy Awards on March 11th, 2024 (now hosted by Jimmy Kimmel…again).

There are rumors of big nominations coming to the Oscars in March. In addition to that, a small dose of girl power as Greta Gerwig is sure to get some love from the stage for that nonplussed screenplay. Following the salmon squall, there’s a new rumor from Academy Awards and Hollywood insider, Matthew Belloni. In Puck’s “What I’m Hearing” newsletter, he shares the possibility of the event beginning with a Barbie-dedicated musical segment.

Think about it: They’re considering three original songs–and probably nominating–for the coveted award. The trio is Dua Lipa’s retro disco “Dance the Night,” Ryan Gosling’s shooting star moment with “I’m Just Ken”, and Billie Eilish’s ballad “What Was I Made For?”

Belloni suggests one of the only things to get in the way of this Barbie cornucopia next March is, of course, money. Poor, gimpy, business-class-special-parking Warner Bros. Discovery. Tsk tsk.

Warner is selling off movies to raise money these days. By the time the Oscars arrive, marketing and awards budgets are spent, so who knows?

In hopes of lining their empty coffers, Warner Bros. has been riding the blowsy bandwagon for the Academy Awards and their oft-debated considerations. Among the favorites for some of the Oscars at the 96th annual celebration are:

  • Once AMPAS argues “Best Original” versus “Best Adapted” screenplay, Greta Gerwig will arm wrestle Sofia Coppola for some gold on stage
  • Best Supporting Actor, Ryan Gosling
  • Best Actress, Margot Robbie
  • Best Picture
  • Best Original Song (see above)

The carpet rolled pink at the Academy Awards. People are ready to watch plastic dolls thrown up and down Hollywood and Highland (and no, not the Kardashians). And the over/under about Barbie jokes are already slated at 15.

What else will Old Man Oscar use to kick off his annual soiree for Hollywood’s elite? The Super Mario Bros. theme?! C’mon!
