Sony Pictures just wrapped their CinemaCon panel and they provided info and updates on various films from their slate of 23 upcoming movies for 2023. Sony reiterated their commitment to theatrical releases and the value of the theatrical experience compared to streaming during the panel. Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures CEO, stated “Streaming Doesn’t Create Movie Stars, Only Global Theatrical Hits,”. Read on for all the major announcements from Sony’s CinemaCon panel.

Dumb Money

Sony showcased some footage for the upcoming Dumb Money film. Dumb Money follows what happened after Reddit bought into GameStop stock in early 2021. Paul Dano stars as a YouTuber who puts all of his savings into GameStop stock causing panic among traditional Wall Street investors. Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley, Anthony Ramos, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dane DeHaan & Myha’la Herrold also star. Craig Gillespie directed the film.

Dumb Money hits theaters October 20, 2023.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Across the Spider-Verse takes place one year after Into the Spider-Verse. Shameik Moore says the film deals with Miles learning that” it’s how you wear the mask that makes you a hero.” Attendees were shown 14 minutes of Across the Spider-Verse. The footage features Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy and Moore’s Miles Morales flirting while swinging through the city. Gwen is back in Miles’ universe to locate The Spot, the main antagonist of the film. Gwen also informs Miles of the different Spider-People and their attempts to keep the multiverse intact.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in theaters June 2, 2023.

The Machine

Sony released the first teaser for their upcoming film The Machine. The film stars Bert Kreischer and tells the mostly true story of the time he spent hanging out with the Russian Mafia in college.

The Machine releases May 26, 2023.

Kraven the Hunter

Aaron Taylor Johnson revealed in a video message that Kraven the Hunter will be rated R. This would be the first time a Sony Marvel film would be rated R. Footage for the movie showed Kraven wearing his famous fur mane from the comics and lots of graphic violence including Kraven biting off someone’s nose. Additionally, it was announced that The Rhino character will be in the film. The full trailer will be available to the public sometime this summer. J.C. Chandor directed the movie.

Kraven the Hunter releases October 5, 2023.

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo is based on the real story of Gran Turismo player becoming an actual race car driver. Orlando Bloom and David Harbour star. It is directed by Neil Blomkamp.

Gran Turismo is out on August 11, 2023.

Anyone But You

Sony revealed the title of the upcoming R-rated rom com starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell is Anyone But You. The movie just wrapped filming in Australia. The footage featuring the characters flirting, arguing, and most notably trying to recreate the famous sequence from Titanic but with them almost falling off the boat.

Anyone But You is directed by Will Gluck. It will release sometime in 2023.

Ghostbusters: Firehouse

Ghostbusters: Firehouse is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Sony revealed the movie will be returning to New York City. The footage shown revealed that Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon’s characters will don the Ghostbusters uniforms.

Jason Reitman is directing. Ghostbusters: Firehouse is set to release December 20, 2023.

The Equalizer 3

Before showcasing footage of the upcoming sequel, Denzel Washington was presented with Lifetime Achievement Award from Cinemacon.

Footage for the movie features Denzel Washington’s character facing off against the mafia and killing someone by shoving a gun into their eye. It is the final film in the The Equalizer Franchise. The Equalizer 3 stars Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Antoine Fuqua directs.

The Equalizer 3 comes to theaters September 1, 2023.

Napoleon

Sony is partnering with Apple to release Ridley Scott’s Napoleon film theatrically before it debuts on Apple TV+ at a later date. They are planning a full theatrical release and not limited screenings like other films Apple TV+ has released. Footage shown featured an epic battle sequence of Russian and Austrian forces fighting the French army. Joquain Phoenix stars in the titular role.

Napoleon releases in theaters November 22, 2023 before heading to Apple TV+ at an unknown date.
