Plot synopsis for ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’
The limited-edition 5-disc set will include the newly restored Director’s Edition from Robert Wise, the original Theatrical Cut, and a special longer cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was originally created for broadcast television in 1983.
Assembled and restored by producer David C. Fein with the assistance of Mike Matessino, both of whom collaborated with the late Robert Wise. The film will feature 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) and an immersive Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Paramount promises that the updated movie will look and sound better than ever before all while staying true to Wise’s original intentions.
Presented in deluxe packaging, the 5-disc set will come with a ton of exclusive collectibles including reproductions of original promotional material, a behind-the-scenes booklet, stickers, and more.

A standard 4K Ultra-HD and Blu-Ray will also be available and will include the bonus Blu-ray disc filled with new and legacy special features listed above.
But if that’s not enough for you, Paramount has also announced the release of Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture Collection! Included in the 15-disc collection will be:
- Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition (+ a Blu-ray with bonus content);
- Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Theatrical Cut;
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (including the Director’s Cut);
- Star Trek III: The Search for Spock;
- Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home;
In addition, making their 4K Ultra HD debut will be Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the latter of which will also include the Director’s Cut.
All six films will also be available individually on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.
To cap it all off, Paramount will be releasing Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition in UK cinemas from 19th August 2022, followed by Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Director’s Cut from 2nd September 2022 to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
