According to Variety, HBO Max will be further developing The Batman‘s rogues gallery with a new series focused on the Penguin, which is in early development. The film will introduce numerous of Batman’s rogues, including Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Carmine Falcone, with more rumored to be appearing. Colin Farrell will be bringing the Penguin to life next March.
Farrell has reportedly been approached to reprise his role. He has been miraculously transformed to play the character due to extensive practical effects makeup.
Variety reports that Lauren LeFranc is set to pen the series. She comes off of the success of Agents of SHIELD, with more credits from the spy comedy Chuck, and her most recent position as showrunner of YouTube Original’s Impulse.
Though the film has not yet hit theaters, it appears that DC and Warner Brothers have great faith in it. One other confirmed The Batman spinoff, Gotham PD, is in the works at HBO Max, and last year, The Cinema Spot exclusively reported on a Catwoman spinoff series in development at the streamer.
Other DCEU Series
Aside from The Batman spinoffs, DC is pushing for multiple other DC tie-in shows, including an upcoming Peacemaker series, and a Birds of Prey series centered on Jurnee Smollet’s Dinah Lance/Black Canary. The streaming service is also developing two DC Original films, Batgirl and Blue Beetle. A Green Lantern Corps series is in the works. The same goes for a Justice League Dark show, with J.J. Abrams attached to produce. Also, a Constantine project is in the works, possibly tied into the JL Dark series.
Multiple other projects are in the works at varying stages. The possibility of more The Batman spinoffs exists as well.
