Day One of E3 2021 was rocky, to say the least with not too many surprises for us. However, Day Two packed the punches we missed. Microsoft kicked things off, showing off their huge catalogue of Xbox and PC exclusive games. Square Enix followed with a small selection of their games. In fact, many of these games are ones we’ve known about for some time. Let’s take a look at the best games they showed us!

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rumours of a Guardians of the Galaxy game have been spinning since 2017 when Square Enix announced their multigame deal with Marvel Entertainment. (The first became Marvel’s Avengers.) Last week, those rumours resurfaced with many outlets seemingly confirm that Square Enix would announce the game at E3 2021. Not only did they announce it, but they started their whole panel with the trailer.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be a new universe where the team has only been together for around a year. The game will be inspired by both the film series and the comics. Here, players will take control of Peter Quill/Star-Lord in a brand new adventure created specifically for the video game.

No plot details have been revealed. Although, many familiar characters will be making appearances alongside the Guardians including Mantis and Cosmo the Spacedog. In true James Gunn style, it will feature 30 licensed songs including those from Blondie, Iron Maiden, Joan Jett, and KISS.

Players will also be pleased to know that the game will contain no microtransactions or DLC.

Operation: Black Panther – War for Wakanda

Many have been critical of Marvel’s Avengers with complaints ranging from bugs to competitive fighting, and an all too short campaign. Of course, that hasn’t stopped Square Enix from improving the game as they have been announcing new free expansions for players to enjoy. So far, we’ve had two expansions: Operation: Kate Bishop – Taking A.I.M, and Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect. Earlier today, Square Enix announced the details regarding the game’s next expansion.

Operation: Black Panther – War for Wakanda will add Black Panther, the Dora Milaje, and Shuri, along with Ulysses Klaue as the main antagonist. The new expansion will also add new combat, missions, and locations around the country of Wakanda. Best of all is that the expansion will be free of charge!

The expansion will release this summer!

Spider-Man is also set to be added to the game this summer as a PlayStation-exclusive, however, no date has been announced.

The Life is Strange Series

The third season of the “real-world superhero” franchise, Life is Strange, is almost here. Once again, we’ll be introduced to a set of new characters in a brand new story that will have players take on the role of Alex Chen. This character is a young empath who can experience the emotions of others. Using her abilities, she tries to solve the mystery surrounding her brother’s death.

We also got a look at Life is Strange Remastered Collection. This will include new versions of Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm. The collection will include updated visuals for the environments and characters, including full facial motion capture, plus upgrades to the engine, lighting, and gameplay puzzles.

True Colors will be the first main title in the series to be developed by Deck Nine, Square Enix’s European subsidiary who also developed Before the Storm. They have replaced Dontnod Entertainment, who developed the previous games in the series.

Steph and Ryan from Life is Strange: Before the Storm will return in True Colors.

Featuring over 1900 pages of script, the game is set to be another unique take on the superhero genre. Life is Strange: True Colors will be released on September 10th, 2021. All episodes in the series will be available all at once.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster & More…

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster was one of the final games to be announced during the panel. The collection will be remastered versions of the first six Final Fantasy games, originally released from 1987-1994. The collection will be available on PC via Steam and Mobile. No release date has been announced.
