Stephen King’s The Talisman is getting the Netflix treatment as Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer team up with Steven Spielberg to adapt the novel into a series. The brothers will be joined by their fellow Stranger Things writer Curtis Gwinn (The Walking Dead), who will be the series showrunner as well as an executive producer.

The famed Spielberg will also act as an executive producer alongside his Amblin Television production company. Paramount Television Studios will also be producing the series, as well as, obviously, Netflix. Gwinn, along with showrunner duties, will also be the series’ writer. One of the novel’s original authors, Stephen King, will produce as well.

First released in 1984, The Talisman was penned by Stephen King and Peter Straub (Ghost Story). The synopsis of the novel, from Stephen King’s official site:

“Twelve-year-old Jack Sawyer embarks on an epic quest–a walk from the seacoast of New Hampshire to the California coast–to find the talisman that will save his dying mother’s life. Jack’s journey takes him into the Territories, a parallel medieval universe, where most people from his own universe have analogs called “twinners.” The queen of the Territories, Jack’s mother’s twinner, is also dying.” via StepehnKing.com

King’s works have been receiving quite a few adaptations as of late. Most recently, CBS All Access (now Paramount+) developed a series adaptation of The Stand, and HBO released a limited series adapting The Outsider early last year. Warner Brothers also released IT Chapter Two in 2019, the second and final installment of the film series begun in 2017 under the direction of Andy Muschietti.
