Today, it was revealed that WB Animation is developing two new movies. The first is an adaptation of the acclaimed Batman story The Long Halloween, while the other revolves around the Justice Society of America, titled JSA: World War II.

The Long Halloween will be released in two parts, similar to how the adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns was released. The comic is a 13-issue story arc following The Dark Knight as he tracks down Gotham’s newest killer dubbed Holiday. Featuring Joker, Riddler, Catwoman, Carmine Falcone, and more, it is a detective story for the ages. Even Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming The Batman has taken quite a bit of inspiration from the arc by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. The first part is expected to release in the summer of 2021.

JSA: World War II sounds to be an original story, though not much is known about the plot. the Justice Society of America is the pre-Crisis superhero team, the predecessor of the Justice League of Society. Legacy characters such as Jay Garrick (Flash), Alan Scott (Green Lantern), Kent Nelson (Dr. Fate), Atom (Al Pratt), and Hawkman (Carter Hall). Following “Crisis on Infinte Earths” from Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the Justice Society of America was moved to Earth-2, paving the way for the Justice League of America to step in and fill the void.

The latest entry into the DCAU, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War saw the end of the DCAU we knew, allowing for a whole slew of new titles and stories to be told within the animated multiverse. Though it is doubtful The Long Halloween will be considered in-canon for the DCAU proper, it is a strong possibility that JSA: World War II will be one of the first entries into the new universe following the final events of Apokolips War.
