Quarantine has been lifted a little bit but I’m still comfortable in my house watching television. This week I’m throwing it way back to a film I first saw when I was two years old. Ever since then The Wizard of Oz has been a staple in my list of favorites.

My mom didn’t think twice about showing it to me. The Wicked Witch and the flying monkeys didn’t scare me in the slightest, and I sat in front of the television enthralled every time. When I turned four my birthday party was The Wizard of Oz themed and for Halloween I was Dorothy. I lived in my Dorothy dress all the time. My mom had to bargain it off of me with the promise of my Snow White dress just so she could wash it.

We got off topic a lot in one of my courses. One day, my professor brought up Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” album. She said that supposedly it syncs up with The Wizard of Oz. That day after class I went to my apartment and immediately watched it with the album in the background. It checks out, I thoroughly recommend doing it.

As I got older I did more research on films and the film making process. Unfortunately, the circumstances were not the best when making The Wizard of Oz. They weren’t the best on any film back in the Golden Age of Hollywood. I appreciate everything about this film and the way it changed my life. I’m happy that things have gotten better, but I still believe the film industry has a long way to go.

If you have seen The Wizard of Oz, tell me why you love it so much. If you didn’t love it as much as I do I want to hear your reasoning. As always, don’t forget to keep up with us on Twitter!
