Undrafted is one of my feel-good movies. During this pandemic when baseball was nowhere to be found, it also brought me a sense of comfort. I felt like I was at least watching a game.

The film takes place over one day. When John Mazzello doesn’t get drafted into the Major Leagues, an intramural baseball game later that day ends up being one of the most important games of his career. The film was written and directed by John’s brother Joe Mazzello (Jurassic Park, Bohemian Rhapsody). Joe also stars as a fellow teammate, Pat Murray. Some of the other actors include Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Broadway star Aaron Tveit, Matt Bush (The Goldbergs), and Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf). The real John Mazzello also makes a cameo as the shortstop for the opposing team.

One of my favorite aspects of the film is the fact that it’s a labor of love from Joe to his brother. There’s so much passion for the film and it’s very heartwarming to watch. The movie does a good job of splitting up game time and dugout time. It’s perfect for showing a bit of the team dynamic and what each player brings to the table.
