After months of waiting after Ruby Rose’s exit from the series we finally have confirmation on our new Batwoman!! Javicia Leslie(Former God Friended Me co-star) has joined the CW series as Ryan Wilder a completely original character for the series. While most people(including myself) speculated that this character name of “Ryan Wilder” was just being used as an alias it is now officially confirmed that this is indeed the character’s name.

Here’s the character description from a casting call as outlined by Deadline.As well as what our new series lead had to say about the joining the cast.

A former drug-runner, the now-reformed and sober Ryan lives in her van with her plant and is a highly skilled but wildly undisciplined fighter. Like her predecessor, Ryan is an out lesbian, with performers who identify as LGBTQ encouraged to submit for the role.-Deadline

“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” Leslie said.-Deadline

So what does everyone think of the series having a completely original character as the series lead? I’m kind of glad and disappointed at the same time we aren’t getting another DC comics character in the series. However, with this new original character I feel they have a great chance to soft reboot the series. Can not wait for season 2 in January 2021!!!
