The Cinema Spot has learned that a Saturday Night Fever television adaptation is in the works at CBS All Access!

The series is set to be made by Paramount Television, with Thom Pretak and Terry Gould as producers. The adaptation is currently only known under its working title, “Tribal Rites.”

Thom Pretak and Terry Gould are producers on many television shows, with Pretak being known for Star Trek: Discovery and Reign, and Gould’s most notable work being Swamp Thing and Falling Water.

The fact that “Tribal Rites” is the working title of the series is also interesting, as the original Saturday Night Fever movie was actually inspired by a 1976 New York Magazine article titled “Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night.” Originally, the article was published as a piece of factual reporting. However, around the time of the 20th anniversary of the film in 1996, the writer revealed that it was actually a work of fiction.

It is currently unknown if this series will be based on the film, or if it will tell the story behind the original article.

What do you think? Would you like to see a reboot of the film, or a documentary about the original article that inspired the movie? Please let us know on our Twitter and Instagram!
