Ryan Murphy gave fans a treat back in February by posting on Instagram a teaser vid for the upcoming 10th season of American Horror Story. By the looks of it, the theme resonates with something aquatic or dealing with a setting on an eerie beach. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, not only has production been delayed, but the theme for the upcoming season may change entirely.

Bloody Disgusting reported that Ryan Murphy took to The Wrap to explain,

“A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment; it was a weather-dependent show, so now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do. I don’t know what I’m gonna do next with that show. I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait till next year to shoot this one.”

Murphy added on a few more details,

“You know, nobody so far has called me up and said, ‘OK, we have a plan to move forward for shooting.’ So until that day, everybody is kind of on pause. I honestly don’t know. But it’s a great season and I know all the actors are chomping at the bit to get into it.”

Kathy Bates, Macaulay Culkin, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross, and Finn Wittrock are still set to appear for the upcoming season.

Although fans may be disappointed, the show is still going strong and is merely awaiting the green light to continue production. Let’s keep supporting AHS by streaming it online on either Hulu or Netflix!

While Season 10 may not be around for a while, here are some of my personal top five seasons to check out in the meantime (spoiler free)!

5. Hotel (Season 5)

AHS_Hotel

If you like The Shining, famous psycho killers from the past, and being stuck in a murder hotel that you can never leave, then this season is for you. This season ranks pretty high on the creepy/gore factor which is why it earned a nice spot on the list. The whole time I was watching, I muttered “WTF” to myself at least 50 times.

4. 1984 (Season 9)

ahs1984

The ’80s (aka perhaps the best decade in history) and a deranged killer on the loose in a summer camp? Sign me up! This was my favorite season since the series started and I’d definitely watch it again and again. It’s almost as if creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk invented the scene back in the day because this season was the epitome of a slasher film.

3. Apocalypse (Season 8)

AHS apoc

One of the biggest seasons ever anticipated, this was a crossover between the highest rated seasons ever to grace the AHS world (Murder House and Coven) along with some other surprises. The storyline and connection of it all is nothing short of genius and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. (*Please make sure to watch the previous seasons so you can understand this one and get extra excited about it when everything falls into place!*)

2. Coven (Season 3)

ahs coven

If you wanted to be a witch since Hocus Pocus or Sabrina The Teenage Witch like me (which I know we all wanted) then you already know this season takes the cake. Coven was so meticulous about the world of witchcraft (or shall I say bitch-craft) that I know this season is considered a cult classic already! You can’t think of AHS without Coven.

And topping off our list with the number 1 spot…

1. Murder House (Season 1)

ahsmurder

Ahhh, the exact reason we all fell in love with the show in the first place! MURDER HOUSE! Let me tell you: when I first started watching AHS on FX, I turned on every single light in my house. I’ve never seen a show so freaky and gory that actually tackled real issues and horrific stories from the past. If there’s anything that truly defines American Horror Story and how iconic it is, then it’s definitely the very first season of this brilliant show!
