Imagine this. You’re barely eating the chips you opened as you sit on the couch after school, shielding your eyes with a blanket. Maybe you’re having a movie night with your siblings or cousins, taking turns scaring each other as you come out of the bathroom from a pee break. All ’90s kids have been there. Those of us who have grown up watching Goosebumps were always in for a good scare! With news of the reboot being confirmed just a few days ago, The Cinema Spot is here to bring you the Top 5 Scariest Episodes of the series!

5. “Say Cheese and Die” (1996)

Kicking off our list involves a kid — a very cute kid played by the Ryan Gosling — finding a creepy camera that predicts a person’s death once they’re captured on film. We’ve all heard the saying that a camera can steal a person’s soul and this episode just confirms our fears! Young Ryan Gosling would faint if he found out almost every cellphone in the world is pretty much a camera now too!

4. “One Day at HorrorLand” (1997)

A family road trip. Dad taking the wrong turn. Creepy amusement park in the middle of nowhere. Nothing can possibly go wrong, right? This episode features your normal family stumbling upon a mysterious amusement park as they get lost on their road trip. At first, things seem fantastic and fun, but then things take a turn for the worst as the park employees reveal their sinister nature and horrific plans for the family.

(*This episode was so good that it had two parts to it! Make sure you watch both.)

3. “Night of the Living Dummy II” (1996)

If there’s something in this world that I know we all go weak in the knees for, it’s evil-possessed talking dummies. Every successful horror franchise has some sort of killer dummy or doll, and Goosebumps executed it perfectly. So much so that the show had three episodes total dedicated to this creepy little guy. Young girl Amy receives Slappy (the doll’s hair-raising name) as a replacement for her old puppet. She accidentally brings Slappy to life and it’s pretty much just pure Chucky from there.

2. “Welcome to Dead House” (1997)

The Bensons are a beautiful family that move to a new house in a new town. Everything seems okay, but the house is just so old and creepy and the kids quickly find out that the neighbors aren’t what they seem. I can’t say too much about the episode without spoiling it but as you can tell from the picture above, the Bensons are in for a 5-star Goosebumps treatment.

(*This episode also has two parts to it so you know it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.)

1. “The Haunted Mask” (1995)

And last, but surely not the least, is our number one episode. The infamous haunted mask! Cute girl Carly Beth (can’t you tell the cuteness from the picture) is tired of being constantly pranked and scared by her guy friends. On Halloween night, she comes across the freakiest mask ever and buys it in an attempt to get back at the boys. The mask successfully scares everyone she comes across but at what price?

(*This mask literally haunts me till this day and Carly Beth is truly a savage for choosing that specific one.)

The Girl who Cried Monster

The Goosebumps series has a total of 74 episodes spanning across 4 seasons. This list is merely a guide for some of the best episodes but the entire show is truly a blessing for any young horror fanatic. I credit this show as being one of the reasons why I would love to be a writer and director for the horror genre. I hope you all get to enjoy this series as much as I did when I was a kid. I also re-watched the series not too long ago and it was still awe-inspiring! You can stream all episodes on Netflix right now!
