Exclusive: George MacKay is leaving the battlefield for the football field.

The 1917 star has been offered the role of Jamie Vardy, who plays football (soccer) for the English Premier League, in an upcoming untitled biopic helmed by Nima Nourizadeh.

Patriot’s Day and The Fighter duo Eric Johnson and Paul Tamsay are penning the script.

Sources say Ex Machina and Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander is wanted for the role of Rebekah Nicholson, Vardy’s now wife. However, no formal talks have begun.

MacKay is best known for his lead role in the Oscar-winning Sam Mendes film 1917, as well as Viggo Mortensen’s Captain Fantastic and the upcoming True History of the Kelly Gang.

Nourizadeh most recently directed an episode of Apple’s Little America and also helmed a variety of music videos.

No release date for the pic has been set.
