I’m back and this time I have two film recommendations for you. Consider it an Easter gift. These two films go hand in hand and I couldn’t pick just one. Here at The Cinema Spot, I will be your musical guide. Questions, comments and concerns regarding musicals and movie musicals can be directed to me and I will answer them all.

Mamma Mia and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again are two of the greatest movie musicals on this entire planet. From what I can gather, the general consensus is that people who don’t normally like musicals like these movies anyway. Who can blame them really? The music of ABBA is unmatched and with a lineup of actors including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters there is no competition.

In case you haven’t figured out the plot of these films, I’ll break it down for you super quick. Meryl Streep’s character Donna runs a hotel in Kalokairi, Greece as a single mother to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried). Sophie is getting married to Sky (Dominic Cooper) and invites the three men who could possibly be her dads after reading her mom’s journal. Donna doesn’t know that Sophie invited them until she walks in on the three men. I’m not telling you who the real father is, I’ll let the suspense pile up. In the second film Sophie is now running the hotel with Sky and they’re getting ready to reopen the hotel after Donna’s passing. This film also flashes back and forth to the 1970s and shows the backstory of how young Donna (Lily James) graduates college, travels around the world, meets her three suitors, and ends up in Kalokairi.

These films are guilty pleasure minus the guilt. Plus with everything going on right now they provide a much needed escape even if it’s only for a few hours. For those of you that haven’t seen these films, definitely think about giving them a watch. For those of you who have see these films, what are you waiting for?

Stay tuned for my recommendation next week and let us know @TheCinemaSpot if you plan on watching these films!
