The world of cinema involves everything caught on film, and yes, this does include the adult industry.  In a news report by Variety, popular pornography website Pornhub announced it would release its first non-adult film on Wednesday.

This film will be a documentary titled Shakedown from Leilah Weinraub, filmmaker, conceptual artist, and former CEO of the fashion brand Hood By Air.

The documentary will be a “stream-of-consciousness, nonfiction narrative about the queer women and men who populated the lesbian strip club scene in Los Angeles in the [1990s and 2000s].” Weinraub will use 15 years-worth of footage over her adult life, and Variety says it will provide “a humorous, sensual and informative look at a vibrant subculture.”

The film will stream on the site for reasons that other sites such as YouTube and Vimeo would not allow; it will be an outlet for art. Weinraub says:

There’s a cool opportunity right now to present films in the art space, there’s more openness to diversity and content, and a different sort of storytelling … I feel like [the film] complicates the history of subcultures, like Los Angeles. It reorients your placing of things in that history. I feel like that was my goal, not to put a finger on it, but complicate and add to that richness.

Both the filmmaker and the site aim to reach out to women with a chat window open to engaging in discourse about the art and craft of the culture, the former speaking with users once a week.

Shakedown will be available to stream for free on Pornhub for the entire month of March.
