Recent rumors on the internet, surfacing from DanielPRK, claim that Marvel Studios is looking to replace James Gunn’s directing position on the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with a female director. The list has four names, which include Dee Rees (Pariah, Bessie), Michelle McLaren (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones), S.J. Clarkson, who is also on the shortlist for the upcoming Star Trek 4, and finally Jane Campion (The Piano).

The list above is comprised of great talent, however, Jane Campion has, more recently, turned away from the feature film spotlight. This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel was interested in independent directors, as Mark and Jay Duplass were approached a few years ago to direct an unknown Marvel film. If she’s on the list, Marvel has faith in her abilities, and fans should, too.

My personal choice would be Michelle McLaren. McLaren has worked on high-budget television shows such as Game of Thrones and Westworld, and has had the chance to show how she can balance humor with action in Breaking Bad on numerous episodes. She is also attached to the upcoming Chris Pratt-led Cowboy Viking Ninja, which shows she has a good relationship with someone central to the cast.

What do you think about the list? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to follow Geek Motivation on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with the latest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 news!
