Reported by TheDisInsider, Disney Studios has recently held video calls with Kacey Musgraves, the six-time Grammy Award winning vocalist in the hopes of bringing Musgraves aboard for their upcoming The Little Mermaid film. Disney seems to want Musgraves as Vanessa, Ursula’s human form which she “transforms” into in the hopes of stopping Prince Eric from falling in love with Ariel.
In his report, Skyler Shuler, Editor-in-Chief of TheDisInsider, notes that he has confirmed the meetings have taken place, but are unsure if any resolution has been met.
The live action adaptation of Disney’s hit animated film The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey (Grown-ish), Jonah-Hauer King (Little Women), Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters), Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting, Hamilton), and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians). The film is written by Alan Menken, scribe of the animated The Little Mermaid, and will be directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns). Production is expected to begin in Pinewood Studios, London this summer.
